Making Tax Digital (MTD) means you are no longer able to keep and submit manual VAT Returns and records from the HMRC website.
Instead, HMRC will only accept VAT Returns sent using software that supports Making Tax Digital for VAT, like OnlineFilings VAT Return Filing Software. MTD for VAT focuses on three key requirements:
Digital record keeping
All transactions are stored in an electronic format, accessible to you at any time.
Digital submissions
All submissions must be made using approved software via HMRC’s online gateway.
Digital links
Having a digital link between final numbers and source data.
1. Download the MTD-compliant spreadsheet directly from your dashboard
We offer the spreadsheet in a range of file formats (xlsx, xls, cxv...), ensuring you'll be able to open it.
2. Copy and paste your expenses and sales for the period onto the spreadsheet
You'll be able to see right away what your VAT figures look like for the period.
3. Upload the completed spreadsheet
We'll then take care of securely sending the data to HMRC.
Your VAT Registration Number and a Government Gateway account will be required to submit your VAT Return to HMRC (but don't worry: if you do not have a Government Gateway account yet, our agents will guide you through the process of getting one)
