To be able to file your VAT Return electronically through the Online Filings platform. You will need to register your company for ‘Making Tax Digital’ (MTD). This is an online process that you only need to do once, to inform HMRC that you would like to file your VAT Returns digitally through authorised software.
It is important that you do this as soon as possible so once you are set up for MTD you can file your VAT Return quickly and easily via our platform.
You will need:
- Your VAT registration number and registration details
- Your Company UTRThe company UTR which was sent by HMRC 15 working days following your limited company registration(do not use your self assessment individual UTR)
- The email address you use to conduct your business
Adding the VAT service to your business Government Gateway account:
If you have not yet added the VAT service to your your business Government Gateway account, please follow the steps below, otherwise click here to register for MTD
- Click add a 'tax, duty or scheme' to your account:
- Choose VAT and VAT services:
- Then add the type of VAT you wish to add, for regular VAT returns, this is the first one on the list:
- Then choose ‘Yes’ when asked if you have a VAT number:
- Enter your 9 digit VAT number:
- your VAT number, the postcode you provided in your application (or where you received your VAT certificate),
- your effective date of registration,
- the month of your last VAT Return (enter N/A if you have not filed a return yet):
- log back to your Government Gateway
- enter the PIN. You will then receive confirmation message on-screen that you have added VAT taxes to your Government Gateway account.
On the next step you will need to reconfirm your VAT registration details, you will need to provide:
You will then receive a message stating that an ‘Activation PIN’ has been sent to your address. This letter takes up to 10 working days to be received at your address, once you receive it:
If you wish to file your VAT Returns with us online, please click here to register for HMRC's Making Tax Digital programme (MTD). You will not be able to proceed with your filing until this step is done.
